Intergenerational: Meaningful connections shared by generations, beginning with a cradle!

There are many ways that connections are made between generations. Traditions and stories are passed from one generation to the next. Sometimes items, are shared between generations, bringing along their own particular stories and traditions. RC, Frannie, and Phoebe have such an item to share with the community.

A very special swinging cradle is ready to welcome new arrivals. Built in 1972 out of walnut and rosewood, with copper fastening, it has rocked two generations of Cross family (four babies) and cradled the newborns of three other families (four babies). For five years it hung in a Cottage Grove birthing clinic and held 50 or more newborns for a few hours before heading home to their new families. It has been empty for a few years, but we look forward to seeing it in use by new little members of our community!
