Are you waiting in the wings?

I wanted to share some thoughts about Oakleigh Meadow Cohousing. We (my partner, Katharina and I) have recently become associate members and are seriously considering a move from - in our case Berlin, Germany - to Oakleigh Meadow Cohousing and Eugene, Oregon. We are learning about the whole process and can give you a perspective of a couple who are looking to move to Eugene from a long way away.

We are looking for a progressive place (I previously lived in New Hampshire.) I know a bit about Eugene as my son was a student at the University of Oregon and I had lots of opportunities to take him and all of his roommates out for dinner and see the town! To me, Eugene seems to balance a manageable size with having a lot to offer - culture of all kinds, very good bike paths, the Pacific Ocean in one direction, the Cascade Mountains in the other, and Portland only a hour and a half away. The Oakleigh Meadow Cohousing site is lovely, right on the Willamette River.

Something very important to us is moving to a compatible community. We have been very impressed by the honest warmth of the members of the group and their enthusiasm about the project. We have visited several communities and cohousing groups in the past couple of years and none has made us feel so comfortable and welcome. They have really welcomed us with open arms. And, although ground has not yet been broken, this is the most organized community/cohousing effort we have encountered - and that is important! If you are interested in living in cohousing in the Pacific NW , we encourage you to contact this group.
